A DISCUSSION

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) workplace injuries result in problems like lost productivity, absenteeism and higher workers’ compensation costs. Therefore, it is important for a workplace to implement effective ergonomics programs to reduce these often debilitating disorders. Here at STEBBINS, we have not only developed global initiatives to combat ergonomic injuries, but we have also strived to learn and implement new technologies to continually keep our work environments safe for our employees and customer’s worksite. Robotics continue to play a significant role in most facets of work environments throughout the world; these robotic systems can help reduce workers’ exposures to existing injury sources.

We have invested in and deployed the remote control Brokk Demolition Systems for multiple projects to help us eliminate WMSD injuries. We have also incorporated the use of drones for vessel observations to decrease confined space entries, and we own a fleet of HydroMobile and Construction Robotic equipment, as well as our own Scaffold Company for Engineered Suspended Platforms, Engineered Shoring Fames, Masonry Frames, and QES style tubular scaffold. Furthermore, to reduce repetitive injuries and to ease the forces associated with the operation of rivet busters and jack hammers, we have invested in the monopod pneumatic tool lifts for our demolition tools, as well as high impact gloves to reduce impact injuries and anti-vibration gloves to reduce vibration-induced white finger (VWF) and Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS).
